Common London projects and what to order

Victorian and Edwardian terraces: solid walls

Much of inner London's housing has solid brick walls with no cavity. Insulating on the inside is the usual answer, and insulated plasterboard does it in one board. Celotex PL4000 37.5mm (25mm PIR + 12.5mm board) is £40.21 a sheet. Where every millimetre of room matters, Kingspan Kooltherm K118 uses a phenolic core with a lower λ (0.019 W/mK). See how to fit insulated plasterboard to a solid wall and our solid wall insulation guide.

Loft conversions and dormers

Insulating between and under the rafters is standard in loft conversions. Recticel Eurothane GP 100mm is £36.83 a sheet and Kingspan Thermapitch TP10 100mm is £52.35. Both have an R-value of 4.50 m²K/W according to the manufacturers. Check your build-up with our PIR U-value calculator.

Flats and conversions: sound between floors and walls

Flat conversions need good sound insulation between homes. A typical stud partition uses acoustic mineral wool such as Rockwool RWA45 100mm (£25.18 per 2.88m² pack) with acoustic plasterboard such as Gyproc SoundBloc. Read how to soundproof a stud wall.

Office and retail fit-outs

Commercial fit-outs often need a suspended ceiling and new partitions. We stock ceiling tiles and grid from Rockfon, OWA, Knauf AMF and USG Donn, plus metal studs and track and plasterboard. Our suspended ceiling calculator and drywall partition calculator work out the quantities.

Extensions: floors and flat roofs

Rear and side-return extensions usually need floor insulation and a flat roof. See PIR vs EPS vs XPS floor insulation, and browse floor insulation and roof insulation.

Insulation supplier for London: getting materials onto site

Our insulation and building materials are delivered by lorry with a truck-mounted forklift (Moffett) and offloaded at your site. To keep things simple in London:

• Tell us about access when you order. Narrow streets, width or weight limits, low bridges, loading restrictions or a controlled parking zone all affect how we deliver.
• Check parking. If the lorry will need to stop on a restricted street, you may need to arrange a parking suspension or permit with your council.
• Plan where the materials will go. Insulation and plasterboard must be stored flat and dry. If there's no room on site, think about ordering in stages. Our delivery and storage checklist covers what to have ready.
• Someone must be there to receive the delivery, and we need a contact number for the driver.

We'll call you to arrange a delivery day. If you need materials by a particular date, call us on 03330 908479 before ordering.
